Turning one app into a multi-site learning platform
Reworking the Braineos codebase so one deployment per site can launch a focused learning product, starting with Finance Brain, a free financial literacy course site.
Problem
We had a library of financial literacy content and a proven learning platform in Braineos, but launching a separate product the usual way would mean forking the codebase and maintaining two apps.
What we built
- Site profiles: each deployment picks its name, theme, copy and legal text at build time, so nothing product-specific is hard-coded.
- Feature flags enforced on the server, so a focused site can switch off whole features: user-created decks, challenges, AI tools, ads.
- Courses and lessons, with an importer that turns a structured content vault into courses, lessons and multiple-choice decks, images included.
- A separate database, auth project and CI pipeline per site, from the same code and migration history.
- An Android app built from the Braineos mobile codebase as a per-site variant: courses, native lessons and multiple-choice quizzes.
Result
Finance Brain is live at financebrain.app and on Google Play as a free, courses-first product, sharing every improvement with Braineos instead of diverging from it.
